Wierd File Copy Issue - Can you help figure it out?

Ok,

So I have en external hard drive with all my files on it that I am restoring to my computer.

On the external drive there is 245gb and all the files work fine.

I have copied all the files over using varios softwares like, TeraCopy, Syncovery etc.

They all "SAY" it has completed but when I go toe the properties of each folder the external read 245gb (900 folders) and the computer folder reads 220gb and (845 folders).

I thought perhaps it was hidden files etc, but when I actually went into the files on the computer. The files are weird.

When I right click on the computer files, the right-click menu is weird, I cannot see properties of the file, I cannot open them with double-click and when I right-click open with>.

I get "the document name or path is not valid. Try checking permission.

I checked permissions of the folders through properties and it says read only, so I unchecked that and applied and still nothing.

So I do not know what is happening.

**Note, all of these same exact files and folders are opening fine on the external?

So I do not know what is wrong.

I am running a newly installed windows XP a new hard drive, (external files are form XP machine also,) don't know if that makes a difference.

Would really love any help and advice.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to simply copy and paste the files back to the computer?

Try a few files at first and see if that copy works properly. What OS? Does your board have ports from different chips? (Asmedia and Intel, for example)
