I have a lite-on SOHD-167T.

I put a dvd in there, and tried to use dvd decrypt to put in on my HDD, and every time i do, it just freezes. Even if i don't load up dvd decrypt it freezes...any ideas why? Its a legit movie too. Its really annoying. But if i put it in my dvd-burner, it works.

it used to work fine.

Please clarify what freezes. I assume the decrypter. Regardless, it's the craptastic Lite-On probably being unable to read the DVD. My SHW160P6S does that too when I put in some legit movies. They keep spinning, but it can't recognize what it is. Note that this replace a SHW1635 that completely froze the system temporarily (sometimes permanent). Your solution would probably to just upgrade your firmware unless you have an "oem" version, then you are Effed like me.

its not oem but i cant find any firmware for it. and it does keep on spinning like you said, but if i take it out the system doesnt unfreeze. this is w/ or w/o dvd decrypter.

Look in Event Viewer and check to see if you have multiple errors regarding the CD-Rom drive. Try it in safe mode.

If it's freezing regardless of what software you run, it sounds like it's autostarting something that doesn't agree with your system.

omg i shut off autoplay on it and it still did it.

it just freezes everything...and i have to restart

I had a LiteON 1673S, which was acting up, much like you described, and I just replaced it with a Pioneer 111D. I can't say that it is any faster, but so far, it hasn't had any problems.
