I went to play a DVD from Region 1 (US) today on my new computer and windows media player gave me an error saying something along the lines of: "Device needs system region setting of 1 your current setting is 8"

So I right clicked on my device properties and it said that I had 3 attempts left at changing the region code. The weird thing is my region code was set at 2........not 8.

I tried setting the Region to 1 and it told me to insert a region 1 media, so I did and it gave me an error stating that I needed admin rights (I have em) and to make sure the media is region 1. I tried 3 more DVDs and the same error.

I downloaded a trial of DVD Region + CSS Free and it temporarily fixed the problem, but I would like to have my device set to 1.

What is the problem? Do you think a RMA would fix this?

P.S. - This is using the OS of Vista 64

Upgrade the firmware on your drive to remove region settings.

DVD regionalisation is the most stupid thing ever.
