I am looking at replacing my 17" Philips 107T monitor with a 19" LCD monitor. My video card is an Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX400. From what I can tell on the card, it does have DVI output as well as VGA which I am currently using. The resolution settings currently can only go to 1280 x 1024. From what I understand, widescreen requires 1440 x 900. Thus, it appears my video card will not support that higher resolution.

My questions:
1. Am I correct in assuming that I cannot get the higher resolution with the card?
2. Is it worth going with a DVI cable instead of VGA? Is the quality of the video better?
3. Which is a better monitor? Widescreen or regular?

Thanks in advance.

I think the only reason you're seeing 1280x1024 as the highest resolution is becasue thats the max of your current monitor. My dad has an GF2 MX420 that can do 1600x1200 and beyond. You'll be able to do 1440x900 just fine.

Yes, get a DVI cable if it doesn't come with the monitor already.

Widescreen is alot better for movies and sometimes games. But I don't think you're going to play games on an MX 440.

movies might be a task also :S

19inch widescreen should be similar to your 17 (if its an LCD) in vertical height

19inch normal will have more usable space... and id suggest going to a 19" 1280x1024
