Widescreen resolution

Hi

I know that this is a silly question, but is 1280*800 a real resolution or just a round up of 1280*768 in advertising terms? What happens is that my Compaq is supposed to do 1280*800 natively but I can only find 1280*768 under display properties.

I'd like to be able to enable the missing 32 vertical lines, if possible, to have more space and run the laptop at its "native" resolution.

Thanks all.

Some manufacturers with "14" widescreens" actually use two different panels. I don't remember which is which, but with 14" and 14.1" panels one uses 1280x800 and one uses 1280x768. So while generic advertisements may say 1280x800, you may just have the other size panels and have 1280x768.

Not to mention that it really doesn't matter, it is an inconsequential differences 😉

Make sure you're actually looking at that specific model and revision number. Most companies have gone to 1280x800 because it's the more common (at least in computers) 16:10 standard, but I know for a fact that HP/Compaq has released a few notebooks with 1280x768s. I forget what the Compaq cousin is, but the HP is the dv1000 series. I assume that's what you have.

Personally, I'd rather have a proper 16:9 1280x720 display myself. 😛

16:10 versus 16:9

I have a 16:10 widescreen on my desktop and a 16:9 for my laptop...

FWIW my Dell Inspiron 700m does 1280x800 natively.

well 768 is not enough vertical lines, just IMO. Then 800 is not either, but still 4% better.

In order to get more vertical lines the physical screen has to vertically enlarged. That equates to more weight.
