Widescreen monitors and games resolution solution?

Hey I just got a 19" wide screen monitor and I was just playing some games including StarCraft but I see that the game view is warped. I was just wondering if there were any good free apps out there that simulate square screens or anything like that to where it would get my game screens back to looking normal. thanks

You monitor might have an OSD option to do 1:1 scaling or something like that. I know my Dell 2005FPW does.

Yeah, this can suck. I just picked up a 20" widescreen and it auto-scales, i.e. distorts, everything above 1280x1024 to fit the screen. Oddly enough every resolution above 1280x1024 will black bar the image.

The first thing to do is turn off image scaling in graphic card properties. If that doesn't do it then it's probably the LCD panel that's scaling, in which case you may have an OSD option or not. Also check out the widescreen gaming forums.

If you have a non-mobile ATI card, welcome to screwed town. Nvidia cards have a workaround to do the scaling on the card. I wish there was some kind of seperate app for the ATI cards to do it as well. Thankfully, the few games I play all support widescreen natively. But if I want to go back and play some starcraft I'm stuck with an ugly stretched image.
