Hello,

I've been trying to get my monitor to use a standard 4:3 ratio and fill in the widescreen region with blackspaces. But i can't seem to get this feature on my monitor, I've read some discussion on other site and that says i have to use the video card settings. So i tried using the nvidia control panel with now luck.

I can't imagine that my monitor can't do something as simple as this. Any insight or advice is appreciated.

thanks in advance.

If you are using a Nvidia card go to the new Nvidia control panel and select "display" then look for " change flat panel scaling", select "do not scale."

I've been using these 4 options for scaling, but the funny thing is that even with these settings, you can tell that the images have been rescaled to match the monitor aspect ratio. Am i using the wrong settings?

Display Adapter Scaling - The scaling unit on your graphics card will rescale the image before it reaches your monitor. If you have a high-end graphics card and a relatively middle-to-low end monitor, this option results in the best image quality and is the one most recommended.

Centered Output - The image isn't scaled at all, but instead your monitor will run at its maximum resolution and the image will display in the center of your monitor. This may result in a black border around the sides of the image.

Monitor Scaling - If you have a high-end monitor, try this form of scaling versus the Display Adapter Scaling option above to see which is best. Otherwise usually the scalers in monitors are not as good as those on high end graphics hardware.

Fixed Aspect Ratio Scaling - Similar to Centered Output scaling, this option will maintain the original aspect ratio of the chosen resolution and display it with black bars to the sides/above/below the on-screen image.

Looks like what you want is centered output or fixed aspect ratio scaling.

Another possibility is that you need to tell your video card that your monitor resolution is widescreen (and give the correct resolution). If your video card is sending regular (i.e. 4:3) signals to your monitor, your monitor may be automatically scaling them.

Also, check if your monitor can do those things (i.e. centered output) on its own.

i think i found the problem.

The first problem is my sh*tty acer al2223w does not have an option to turn off the lcd monitor scaling.
Another problem is the sh*tty nvidia 7800gt, sends the resolution of the "fixed apect ration scaling" as 1600x1200 which cause the monitor to scale it again.
So a 1024x768 will be sent as an 1600x1200 with monitor output centered onto it, and the monitor will adjust it to a 1680x1050.

is there a registry edit or some mod i can use to tell the driver to use the resolution 1680x1050?
