My sister made a wicked deal with me...she wants to play WoW on my machine (basically assigning 3 days out of the week for her to use my comp as she sees fit...knowing she works too much to take proper advantage anyway >.> yeah im a bastard, but its her idea...)

Our deal is...if she buys us a nice widescreen monitor, then she can use my computer to play WoW.

I never played WoW, nor have I ever owned a widescreen monitor...not even an LCD before.

This old CRT is looking pretty dated with its max res of 1280x1024..and it doesnt seem to do that very well as I do not notice even the slightest difference from 1024x768. Partially because I believe the monitor is slightly damaged after 6 years of use...the text is not sharp at all at this point towards the center of the monitor but works better on the sides LoL.

Anyway....

I thought that getting a widescreen LCD would be pretty sweet...since I use this comp for movies ect...and I have seen pretty decent deals on widescreen monitors for 300$ish

But since ghosting/contrast/gray tones/response ect ect ect I decided to ask for advice here on what to buy.

widescreen LCD..must have resolutions that are compatible with WoW Must be in the 300$ range.

Any ideas? thnx

the
ViewSonic VA1912wb has dvi. I did realize that the 1440x900 is lower than the 1280x1024..still

My current CRT does not use DVI, its 15 inches, and this text I am typing right now is very blurred.

Widescreen not worth it?
Better to just get a 19inch regular LCD?
my current monitor is so craptastic....

i guess if you're stepping up from 1024x768 you're not losing anything

i still miss the loss in resolution going from 1600x1200 to a widescreen 1680x1050. and this is a good 9 months later

Get a Dell 2005FPW or 2007FPW. Dont want to spend $800+ on a screen or might as well buy a 1080 HDTV 37"+ IMO

Pay the difference after the $300 to get the 2005/2007.. its worth it..

My first choice would be to pay or save the extra $100 for a viewsonic VX2025 if your vid card is good enough to handle the resolution. It has a bigger screen and a much better PQ then anything in the 19" category. A good monitor is the single most important component to a gaming system and can be used for many years it is well worth getting top quality when your talking about $100 more. Otherwise, a 19" Rosewill widescreen is decent, a little too small vertically for my tastes, but it has a good PQ and refresh rate and is well within your price range. Probably a toss up between a 19" widescreen and a regular 19", you'd really have to look at some displays in a store and see if the size is an issue for you.

Or you can wait and see if someone like amazon runs another $350 deal on the viewsonic VX2025. Considering how popular it is now, it's doubtful this will happen anytime soon though.
