Is it possible to get a non-distorted picture on a widescreen monitor when playing games? My friend has one and he say he can't get it to work on games like Warcraft 3.

I've never used it but I would think there's some way to do it. Is it possible? Either seeing more than most groups (which would give him an unfair advantage), or somehow having black borders on the left and right.

Just wondering.

It's a custom resolution, which the game must support. IIRC, Half-Life 2 supports widescreen, as I think Doom 3 does as well.

All games I've tried support the resolution (sometimes with a little config file hacking).

Edit: About "seeing more than most groups" - HL2 natively supports widescreen displays as Phil mentioned, and does indeed increase the field of view to match. I don't remember which other games do this by default, but some of them will let you change the FOV (sometimes up to a limit) in a config file as well...

I would think there is a setting on the monitor that allows a 4:3 ration to be selected.

BTW Doom 3 doesnt support 16:9, at least last time i ran it.

Be aware that if you tweak a game setting to get 16:9 (like tweaking FOV or something), anticheat software may bounce you as it thinks youre cheating..
