Widescreen LCDs..

How tall is a a 20.1" screen? (2005fpw) Not the monitor itself, but the viewable area. Seriously without my TI-89, I feel stupid.

How tall are 19" screens? I heard that 20.1" widescreens are only as tall as a 17". Dunno. How large of a monitor do you have to get (widescreen) before its as tall as a 19" 5:4?

If I had a ruler (or the desire to do math calculations myself 😛), I'd measure it for you. 😉

It's definitely shorter than the 20" 4:3 (obviously), and it's shorter than the 19" 5:4 as well. I'd say it's somewhere in between the vertical size of 17" and 19" monitors. The 2405FPW is (from what I read) exactly as tall as the 2001FP in viewable image area, so you'd probably need a 23" 16:10 widescreen to have the same height as a 19" 5:4. If you need a "taller" screen, then the 2001FP is for you. Otherwise, 2005FPW. 😛

(Of course, you could always run either monitor in portrait mode, which works rather well too...)

If you know the resolution and pixel pitch of a LCD monitor you can easily calculate its dimensions
The 2005FPW is 1680x1050 with a pixel pitch of 0.258mm, height= 270.9mm
typical 20" 4:3: 1600x1200, 0.255m, height= 306mm
typical 17": 1280x1024, 0.264mm, height= 270.3mm
typical 19": 1280x1024, 0.297mm, height= 304.1mm
typical 23": 1920x1200, 0.258mm, height= 309.6
2405FPW: 1920x1200, 0.270mm, height= 324mm

So the 2005FPW is barely taller than a 17" 5:4 screen, while the 19" 5:4, the 20" 4:3 and 23" WS are very similar in height. The 2405FPW is the tallest.
