I am looking for widescreen LCDs in the 19 - 22" range that are able to rotate into portrait mode. I am also curious if anyone else here currently uses that setup for reading PDFs and Word Documents and if they like it. So far, the only option I've found is the HP L2045w. Anyone here have experience with this monitor?

i'm not sure i've seen any 19in onces like that.. 19 tends to be the 'cheap' product these days, so the companies try to cut corners any way they can. generally the more expensive, the more features it will have. like usb, tilt, swivel etc. i think i've seen a couple samsung lcds that will rotate in portrait mode... but i forget the model numbers

I had a 21" samsung non-widescreen (4:3 1600 x 1200) LCD at work that I occasionally used in portrait mode. In the end, though, the screen was too tall, and it was tiresome looking up and down all the time. I decided that 1200 pixels was plenty in the vertical direction.

How about for reading PDFs? Is a widescreen too wide for portrait? I can't find any good 4:3 LCDs though. Anyone else own an LCD with portrait capabilities?

Dell 2005FPW is what I have at home. When I'm coding it is in portrait mode.

Why not just buy whatever wide screen is the best bang for the buck and set it on edge when you want portrait mode? It works fine on mine, though I do have to set the rotation in the control panel.

I just lean it against the wall behind my desk. It's not something I do often, and it wasn't something I wanted when I picked up the screen I have now. I was just looking around in the ati control panel one day and saw the rotation button, turned my screen sideways and pushed it. And darned if it didn't work.

Wow, I ordered yesterday morning from TheNerds.net, just got the tracking number in my e-mail, and found out that it is out for delivery on a truck in my city as I type this. Now that is what I call FAST SERVICE!!

My 24 inch BenQ supports portrait-mode ... I used it once when I first got it to make sure it worked & that was about it.

It does indeed have that function.

It also has a very nice BirghtView [glossy] finish on the screen, making it the largest LCD with that :D

OP, i hope that HP is an S-PVA like i've seen mentioned on HF, since a TN in portrait mode has terrible color shifting & viewing angles.

I personally run two of my displays in portrait mode 24/7.

You will likely find that when it portrait mode, with nV cards, there doesn't appear to much hardware acceleration, meaning there's usually nasty tearing up & down when scrolling, & a laggy feel when using menus that pop down, etc.
I'd be curious to see if you encounter those aforementioned issues actually, since maybe just maybe nV has fixed those issues in the latest XP drivers, instead of just Vista's.

Keep me posted if you can, thanx, & good luck.

I'm noticing a pattern here. Most of the smaller LCDs mentioned that have portrait rotation are HPs. They use 19" HPs at work (mostly L1906 and L1940Ts) and they have it too IIRC.
