Widescreen In Ubuntu

Ive been playing around with multiple distros of linux trying to pick one to learn, and i have several installed in VMWare. I have this all hooked up to my VS vx2025wm. I have tried for weeks to get my native res to display (1680x1050). I have run the xserver configuration utility, and tried adding modelines into the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but no no avail, all i get is a max resolution of 1024x768, which is pretty ugly on this screen. Anyone had any luck with a widescreen monitor on Ubuntu in VMWare?

phisrow, you are my hero. Finally the resolution will show up and works perfectly. Now i can finally use Ubuntu at a good resolution. Thanks again!
