Widescreen 19in LCDs

need help deciding on an 19inch lcd. the two main ones im considering are the Samsung SyncMaster 940BW and the Viewsonic VA1912wb. if there are better ones out there im also intersted but any straightforward comparisons would be nice.
keep in mind that ive heard that scaling in loewr rez is an issue as well with these.
 
I have the 940B (non widescreen) and it's quite good. Clear text at 1280*1024, games and movies are crisp and free of smudges, nice and bright. I can only assume the wide model used retty much the same components.

I have to say though, I wouldn't get a 19" wide - it would be too short for viewing documents and code. Have you considered the square one? Or a 21/22 inch wide?
 
I have the 19" viewsonic widescreen, it is awesome and gets nothing but good reviews. Everything looks so much better on a widescreen.. games/dvds/etc, it is also much easier to multitask with the widescreen. There is one in fs/t right now if youre interested.
 
im downgrading from a Viewsonic VX2025WM to save some money but realy like the widescreens. there isnt much info on the L194WT lg but it looks nice (trully 2000:1?)... and is out of stock.
are 19 widescreens really that bad?

Its not really 2000:1, it dims the backlight to do something to help the contrast ratio or something. I dunno. But its actually like 800-1000:1
 
I got the viewsonic 19" wide and if I had to choose between it and a non wide 19" I would take the widescreen anyday. Gaming is much better on it. But if I had it to do all over again I would have probably waited and got a 20.1" but at the time it wasn't in the budget and the KDS 19" CRT was killing me. I say viewsonic.
 
Viewsonic VA1912wb is a great monitor. I have had mine for about 3 months and it has made my computing experiences much much more enjoyable. I do gaming, internet, and documents for work. I never want to go back to a crt non wide screen.............
 
i see that the 940BW has some hd option that would work great with the 360... i need some info that would make me go for the samsung over the viewsonic. which is better fo games, movies, and any other good advice.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. If you can't decide I would simply look see which offers better warranty and has best customer support.
 
thats hard to tell, viewsonic said they had no more VX2025WM and if there was a problem replacments would be indefinite. wouldnt know about samsung though. maybe someone knows more about the hd capabilities. from what i understan the silver samsungs are height adjustable so if that comes up id probly go for it but they seem to be rare.
