hey all i just got a new widescreen LCD monitor and everything is stretched out horizontally on my screen... i can't figure out how tell my computer how to properly display. please help!
 
You need to select a 16:10 resolution. However, the native resolution for your monitor is always the best.
What monitor do you have?

yeah i meant stretchy.

its a "HANNS-G JW199D"

when i go to the settings where that little resolution slider thing is i only have the option for 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024... this computer is compaq with integrated graphics.
 
That could be your problem. A lot of intergrated cards may not have custom resolution support, or widescreen support for that matter. I would check what graphics it is and look for any updated drivers for it that would let you change to a custom resolution.
 
Yeah, that's a 1440 x 900 monitor, so if the graphics subsystem isn't recognizing the brand (i.e. through its driver) then you won't see that as a choice.
