Wide angle FTW (new digital camera)

mb

Lifer
I got a Kodak V570 digital camera for my gfs upcoming birthday, and I decided to play around with it a little.

Here is a pic taken with my Canon SD500 at its widest zoom:

Now, here is a pic from the V570 at its widest zoom, from the exact same spot:

Update:
This pano was stitched in camera and only from 3 shots!
The sun came out for a sec so I tried doing another pano, but I didn't line it up as good:

Hmm maybe she can have my Canon 😀

I gotta give props to BeachCamera for getting it here so quickly. I ordered around midnight on 7/11, it was shiped Fedex home delivery on 7/12, and it arrived here at 10am this morning (7/13)!

Now, I would like to know what UPS is doing with my newegg order!

Why the hell is it in FLORIDA!?! It is going to Connecticut! I'm sure it will still get here, but that is one odd looking shipping route!

Get a wide angle adapter for the SD500.

The Canon quality grossly out weighes Kodak's gimmick features.

and this is why i don't want a super zoom camera. no wide angle = lose. gotta be 28 mm or lower. that kodak is 23, which is incredibly wide for a pocketable digicam.

Good idea! Last time I looked they were over $100, but now I see one for ~$30 on ebay.

Oh and new pics in OP.

Which one do you think is better?

#1

or

#2

My guess is #1..

The more I look at it, the more the actual lense part looks to be the same.. hmm..

The Canon has better metering, better color, and the white's aren't blowing out like the Kodak.

Carpeting is also ugly as hell, but that's a seperate issue 😎

Wow nice shots with the Kodak. I see some distortion from the wide angle but that should be correctable in Photoshop or whathaveyou.

Yeah it has some barrel distortion at the widest angle, but I knew that from the reviews I read. The camera has a built in distortion fixer, brings it down from 1.4% to 0.7% distortion. You should see how it looks with the fixer off!

Is that the new 2-lens / 2-sensor camera? That thing is neat. Still not going to sell my Rebel XT for one, though 😛

EDIT: D'oh! Didn't see the first link 😱

Ah, THAT's what I'm missing out on with my mega-zoom - wide-angle...

too bad. Wide makes for some interesting photos.

i have version 3.1.14.34 of it. works great for stitching but i could never get the QTVR 360 degree video thing to work. it keeps saying i need quicktime 3 or 4 installed, while i have the latest one.

does it work for you?

the 23mm on the Kodak is borderline revise fish-eye lens... you can see the roudning on the sides distorting the picture.

Edit: Oh and let your damned dogs out of their cages.

That can be fixed fairly easily in something like Paintshop or Photoshop, I think.

I relaize that, but so can color saturations etc.. yet people harp on that. Wide angle is good up to a certain limit in my eyes. Once the picture starts rounding <25mm in my experience I'd rather just take a step back.

What crawled up your ass and died? Fvck off man. They're not even my dogs and I had to put them in the cage because I was going in and out of the house. As you can see there is no fence and since my sister just moved in we haven't had a chance to put up an electric fence.
