my LCD isn't HDTV (or the like) approved but I want from my 9800pro to offer the capabilities to my DVD videos 'cuz they don't run at widescreen mode, most of them have this solid bar on the sides or at the top 'n bottom of movies, and I've tried several diff. media players, I want full fledged 15" widescreen video without losing any of my monitor space

i've tried several diff. resolutions and they distort the video, anyone know how to fix this?

That's normal. The size of the video varies from movie to movie. You can stretch it to fill the screen but yeah it will distort the image somewhat.

To get movies to fill the screen you would need a screen that is 16:9 but that wouldn't work well for a computer and again with movies that aren't filmed in 16:9 it won't always fill completely.

You're pretty much stuck.

I know there is someone out there who has the solution to this, I'm not buyin' nothin' you can call me a newb, but someone has to have some brilliant idea to get a wide LCD to present like something spectacular....

What your asking may be impossible, the majority of wide screen movies are usually 2.35:1 all the way up to 3:1 (27:9) not 16:9. there are going to be black bars at the top, if there on the sides well you have problems. do you even have a widescreen? 15" is tiny for a wide screen. what is the resolution of your "widescreen" to fill a 16:9 screen with a 2.35:1 would be distorting it. but easily done with most dvd software players.

It is a wide 15" LCD, but is not widescreen approved, so I suppose that using a 9800pro and WinDVD is the best I'm going to get with my monitor and movies.
Yeah it was dumb, but you pay for what you get, it was around 160 bucks with 8ms response and is widescreen, so it's laptop-like for screen display which is what I favor.
So the answer I'm looking for is: hell no
