Wich Zalman VGA cooler is recommended for a Hercules 9800 (NP)?! Can it keep a 9800 card cool?!..

Hi,

I believe the Hercules 9800 (non-pro in my case) can get pretty hot, so I was wondering which silent VGA cooling solution from Zalman works best with this card?! Anybody has experience with this? Will the temperature stay the same with these silent coolers?!

Is the best choice I can get there ZM80C-HP with the ZM-01P or FB165 or something else?! Also, are ZM80C-HP with ZM-01P (or FB165) compatible with the Hercules 9800, since this card has a RAM heatsink I believe?!

In order to keep a 9800 non-pro cool, can I run the ZM-01P or FB165 in "silent mode" or will I need to use "normal mode" which is much louder?! Which is recommended?!

Thanks in advance for all good advice!

Mike.

Are you going to overclock? If not your actual card's cooling is one of the best in 9800np range.

In my opinion, if you have a case fan right over the card, or one of those PCI bracket fans you can do almost the same job cooling the GPU as installing a heatpipe. I have a fan in the window of my case that sits right over the GPU, and it allows me great overclocks to my 9800np.

If you have Samsung memory chips on your card you should be able to flash it to pro also, which would give you a nice o/c off the bad 🙂.

Thanks for the replies, but nobody has experience with a Zalman cooler with the Hercules 9800 (NP) to get more silence. I don't intend to overclock the card or anything by the way, I just was thinking the Zalman cooling solutions could make the Hercules 9800 more silent, or will the Zalman coolers not be that much more silent (depends if you can set the ZM-01P fan to silent mode, etc..)?! Nobody has experience with this?!!

I ran a ZM80A-HP on a 9700P with no fan and it worked great. The 9800nP has the same 325 MHz clock, so it should also work well.

Isn't it so that you can't install the ZM80A/C-HP with the Hercules cards like the 9800 NP (and most others I believe) cause they have a RAM heatsink, especially if you also want to install the optional ZM-01P or FB165 wich is perhaps required to keep this card cool enough?! What about that?!!

Or is the Hercules 9800 NP already quiet enough on its own, like how would it compare to a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB harddisk in order to get an idea, or how much db do you estimate it makes (everything below 30db is considered quiet I believe).

Thanks for the info!!

My hercules 9700pro's noise is <24db I think (it used to be writen in the hercules website but now there isn't any more)

Your cooler is very similar so I think similar noise is achieved.

Again, I ran a ZM80A-HP on a 9700P with NO FAN. The 9800nP has the same 325 Mhz core, so I dont see why you would need a fan at all. It fit just fine on my Gigabyte 9700P which had ramsinks on the GPU side only. Dont know if the Herc ramsinks would be a fit problem. How high are they? Higher than the caps?
