a friend is going to take it from Miami to Panama City in Central America in a hand bag so, the package (oem or retail) is very important to me for protection reasons....i have never purchased anything OEM so i dont know if the package is hit proof or what...im worried about it getting damage on its way here...im going to purchase it from newegg with other things like motherboard, cpu, video card...

another thing i want to know is if the sowftware that comes with the drive is necessary for instalation and whats the little cable on the picture for??? its a led cable?? will i need it???

Samsung software and cables

if its oem(only the drive in the package) what else (accesories, drivers, cables) do i need to download or buy for it to work like a retail one??

please help me....this is my first build ever

that lil cable is for analog audio. mostly useless nowadays.

the oem comes in bubble wrap. newegg will likely ship in in a box full of packing peanuts. should be fine.

the motherboard should come with IDE cables. You'll need Nero or some other burning software.

Download nero

I just bought the NEC (OEM) from NewEgg a few weeks ago. It works great! Also, they package it in a small brown box with packing peanuts and bubble wrap, so it is well protected. he only thing you don't get when you by it OEM is the software. You will need to buy Sonic or Nero or some other software for burning. I actually downloaded a freeware program called CDBurner XP Pro 3 that allows me to burn to DVD's. I used this to make a file backup of my data. I can also use it to burn ISO's, etc. DVD DeCrypter also works fine with this DVD, and it is freeware as well.

You're welcome... I hit the quick reply button when I meant to hit the reply button... I did go back and edit the post though, so maybe you should give someone a few minutes before you start with the sarcasm.
