Wich of these systems is the faster for gaming?

Can you tell me what of these computers would be the faster in gaming (capable of greater fps):

1 - Pentium III 800 with a NVIDIA Aladdin TNT2 (UMA)
2 - Celeron 466 @ 525 with a Matrox G400 16MB
3 - Pentium III 450 @ 504 with a NVIDIA Riva TNT

No, the PII is the slowest. The celeron cpu will be as fast as the PII cpu due to the 128k full speed L2 cache. Also the G400 is much faster than the TNT.

the first one will be the fastest... of the three choices, the first one has the fatsest cpu and the fastest video card

<< a P2 366 is the same speed as a 700mhz Celeron man, don't you know that? >>

Haha you think you know more than me, yet you don't. The celeron 366 uses a different core than the celeron 700. The old celeron was just as fast as the PII clock for clock in most games/apps, as long as you had the fsb overclocked.

Clock for clock the old celeron core is much faster than the new one.

Funny how there is no PII in the list........and yet someone makes an argument about it.....and no, I do not consider the celeron to be the same as the PII because its not.....
It may be the same core with 128kb on-die cache but its still not the same...

the celeron and P3 would be closer then you'd think..... that aladdin TNT2 is basically a TNT2m64, and a g400 is faster then that. OTOH the p3's 275mhz clock speed most likely overtake the g400/celeron combo.

well actually you are wrong about the first celerons being similar speed to P2, not even close because the first celerons had no L2 cache memory at all but the newer celerons have 128kb full speed L2 cache memory and in benchmarks the P3 500 was similar to Celeron 700 and the P2 was similar speed to P3 500 so the P2 366 is about Celeron 700

no offense, but what kind of a dumb question is this? the p3 is 300mhz and a class above all the other CPUs

I agree, it's obvious the PIII wins, but about the celeron and the P2...
I have a Celeron 366@550 MHZ, and it does outperform my fathers P2, which is at 400MHZ, we have the same video card, but I'm not sure about how our mobos differ. We each also have 256 mb or ram...but next week I'll finally have a new computer...I've been living off this celeron366 for two and a half years...

I actually think that the higher rate for my celeron improves the gaming speed, however, I think the P2 does have more cache memory, as I remember it does outperform my system in other areas.

There's been 3 major revisions of Celeron.
1st:
The no-L2 chip...terrible performer
2nd:
Like a P2, just stuck on the 66MHz(?) and 128k L2 cache
3rd:
The now infamous "Culeron", which had the cache with half the associativity and half the amount and only a 100MHz(?) bus...had to overclock it about 150MHz over a P3 to get the same performance 😛

The 2nd gen Celeron nearly performed clock-for-clock with a P2 once you increased the bus to 100MHz...those were the days 🙂

hey mod, rename this to "The retarded thread" first, a stupid question, second a guy thinks there is a PII when there are 2 PIII's and a Celeron, this is the worst thread ever, bar none, period

yeah but if you got a store bought celeron then you can't overclock the FPS because companies like Dell and Compaq and Emachines have those crappy Intel boards where you can't change any FPS or clock settings

how many people actually bought celerons from custom build stores?
i read a report where overclockers actually praise the celery because it's so easy to overclock it hard core and remain stable. otherwise, celerons are just garbage
