Wich DVD media?

So I finally got a DVD burner (a 16x ±R/±RW DualLayer Pioneer DVR-108) and I need to know wich media to use. I can't seem to see the difference between "-R" and "+R". They appear to be the same.

Best Buy has Verbatim 8x -R media on sale (50 disc spindle for $27.99), wich seems like a pretty good deal. I've burnt over 300 Verbatim CD-Rs in the past with no problems, so I guess their dvd media is equally good.

I'll be doing mostly backups and some video for set-top dvd players. RW media is something I'm looking into right now, as those will probably be used for backup and I need reliable media.

What do you recommend?

I use a Sony DVD burner and know for a fact that Sony and Verbatim have issues. I dont know about Pioneer so I cant speak for them but I alway shyed away from verbatim. My other DVD burner is an external Lite-on model (I forget which) and it has a problem with Memorex Which I use on my Sony drive. I get 50 Memorex 8X media (DVD+R or DVD-R) for 20 bucks so I have been sticking with Memorex for my Sony and for the lite-on I use TDK. I like sticking to brand names and usually stock up like mad when I can get a good price. Check out the burners website, it will tell you the recommended media to use and which ones not to use.

to quote a very wise man, "When you absolutely positively have to burn every movie in the room, Taiyo Yuden, accept no substitute"

Well, I've been using Verbatim for almost a year with my Samsung CD-RW and had zero coasters. They work beatifully together. I did have problems with TDK media and that burner.

I haven't heard any problems regarding Verbatim and Pioneer. In any case, I ordered 5 DVD-Rs and 5 DVD+Rs for test purposes.
