If this has been asked before im sorry for the repost. i did a search and didnt find nothing.

But anyway i have a dlink-704p with a Rca dcm235 (rented) cable modem. I would like to save myself the $10 a month and buy a modem myself. I just wanted some ideas on good modems. what are pro's cons of each. i have done some looking on the internet but not many places have actually done review's of cable modems heh.

Anyway any help etc would be good. thanks!

The cheapest one that you can find, as long as it complies with the demands of your ISP. I think I saw a Linksys Cable Modem for $64 A/R (can not recall where). The current bandwidth available for Home consumers, is not a challenge for a Cable Modem.

My cable company was renting me a Toshiba modem that was pretty decent. I have since bought my own RCA (blehhhh!) modem. It works, but looks really stupid. The LED lights are kinda funky on the RCA.

I know a couple people who have Toshibas and havnt had any problems with them.

Motorola Surfboard 4100. I had to wait for the special, but I got it for $25 with a MIR. Never had a problem with it. Agree with above: the cheapest you can find, assuming it works.

Linksys has worked just fine for me... got it for around $80 after rebate at Staples (a while ago).
