Wich 56K modem is detected/installed in XP and work good ?

Look through the modem XP compatibility list here .I`m using an Elsa 56k PCI Microlink HCF modem with XP default drivers, whichs working great.

Hmm..i've used pctel modems w/ 2 different computers under winxp with no problems. Had a terrible time finding drivers to work under win98.....Go figure!

Well i hawe a Lectron I56-PSP and i see that XP hawe drivers for this one inside and is detected as described on compatibility list : HSP 56 World Micromodem .
But after i installed the Modem , XP took forever to shoot down ,..i mean took 40 seconds before the blue screen with " Saving setings , WinXP shooting down " appeared so i say to myself that is not supported .
I did not plugged the telephone line after the >XP Fax program< was installed , it can be for this reason that took so long to shot down ?.
Why it took so long to shot down ? ,...anybody know ?

RE:"Every modem I have tried detects and works fine in XP w/o any additional drivers."

Never tried a modem with a Motorola SM56 chipset have you?

We have a XP Pro machine here with that very same modem...working fine....just lucky I guess! (using win2k drivers).

Ok but does somebody know why after i installed the Modem , XP took forever to shoot down ,.. ?

I have found that many of the V.90 modems out there exhibit this problem, some even stop the machine from shutting down normally. I have not found a single V.92 modem yet that has any XP related issues (I guess because they are all more modern).

I'm using a Creative modem that works fine with the drivers XP loaded, but I had all kinds of problems trying to use the drivers on the supplied disk. I probably could have looked to see if any new drivers were available, but using the generic drivers seems to work OK.

I found out something , i took out this morning the HSP 56 PCI modem and i find that is the XP Fax Software who make windows to shoot down so slowly because if i start the program alone without PCI modem plugged in i hawe the same symptom , well ,...i guess that i must buy Norton Winfax Pro 10.02 🙂
