WiC = one giant bug?

i used to play this game constantly back in the summer of last year. before the game went gold, i got some contract work out in jersey, which meant no games.

anyways, i got back and got around to buying this game. what a disappointment. not a disappointment because of what they've done with the game, but because i can't get anything to work.

initially, i got the fade to black, quit to desktop problem. i tried all the solutions on the website, but none worked. fortunately, i solved the problem through creating the same directories the beta created under "my docs."

now, i'm still having problems. first, my single player saved games don't work. as soon as i quit and restart WiC, the saved games/campaign progress are nowhere to be seen. then i tried running the multiplayer, and those games freeze on the loadup.

unfortunately, the website forums aren't too much help. anyone have the same issues and manage to get them resolved?

Game works perfectly for me still. Sounds like you have a problem with your computer. When is the last time you reformatted? Every gamer should do it at least once every 2 years to keep things running smoothly. Just back up all your important data to an external drive, reload windows, do windows update, download the latest video/sound drivers, then install your games again. They should be running better than ever

Yeah...I would check your hardware/OS first. Still runs fine for me.

do you still have the beta installed somewhere? could be causing conflicts.

this system's a new build. the install's two weeks old. this was like the 3rd item i installed on the system after avast... actually make that the second, because i installed it right after avast.

i can play the single player games without a problem, the saved games vanish as soon as i quit to the desktop or main menu.

i personally doubt it, but does anyone think this has anything to do with xp x64?

there was someone else on the forums talking about the fade-to-black-quit-to-desktop issue, and how he had the same problems. like me, he also had "my docs" redirected to a server (folder redirection). i wonder if he ever got his problem sorted out. i'm almost 99% sure this is the culprit, but why, i don't know. i don't know if the default folder redirect permissions somehow prevent WiC from making subdirectories or something. oddly enough, while it can't do subdirectories, it does make some within the manually created "World in Conflict" directory.

as for the beta. it's not installed, but the directory is still a relic on the server share.

Might be related to XP 64.

if it's an xp x64 issue that'd suck. i'm using xp x64 'cause the sound doesn't work on my AC-1, and i have 4gb of ram.
