Why's Daikatana so bad?

Becuase the graphics were three years old when the game was released. It looked like playing Quake I during the quake-3 era.

Besides, the game is a yucky green tint to it.

Because John Romero promised to make us his bitch with a game that was four years late and $30 million over budget, and we ended up with what BlinderBomber described instead.

Because they promised it for like 4 years...

I thought the graphics were good... it is quake 2 engine afterall... but shooting mutated/robotic frogs with crappy guns... NO THANKS.

The sad thing is Duke Nukem Forever will be just as bad

I sure hope not. The screenies have looked cool as they have trickled in over the SEVEN FRIGGIN' YEARS it has been in development (give or take a year or two).

The thing with Daikatana was not that it was the worst shooter ever (though it was plenty stupid and annoying), but more that John Romero had been so boastful about the brilliance of the game for years and years while it was in its laughably slow-paced development. While his former colleague John Carmack continued to quietly innovate (though I kinda disliked Quake 3, Carmack has consistently been a technological genius), Romero bragged, lived high on the hog, and ultimately released a buggy, below-average shooter with an outdated engine. I only ever played the demo, and did not even make it all the way through, because I was too annoyed by the robo-frogs. I will never understand why developers feel compelled to include those kinds of small, irritating enemies, which just serve to annoy the player . . .

Ok, im not the repost police or anything so dont take this the wrong way.

Searched for Daikatana
Linky.

I personaly never played the game, too bad though, Romero used to be cool.

Everyone keeps saying this game was bad or etc... um... why?
I suppose you could try reading the review at GameSpot or dig up the CGW magazine review.

From memory:
- poor level design, especially the first frog-a-riffic level.
- weak graphics engine (Quake2 in the Q3 era)
- poor graphic design (Alice did much much better using the same Q2 engine)
- weak story
- bad voice acting (anyone remember that fake porno audio track someone made using it?)
- poor wingman AI

all of this after incredible pre-release hype.

sure it used the q2 engine. But by that time the Q2 engine was outdated! there were a few better engines to use.

the game just sucked. outdated and crappy game play. not to mention remero (whatever) saying he would make me his bitch. bah

for those who didnt play it, it looked much better than quake 2.
and for those who didnt play the DM/CTF... well you missed out.

the single player game was balls.

Lots of hype + long development time + bad game when finished = This game got ripped to shreds by most critics and gamers.
