The sad thing is Duke Nukem Forever will be just as bad
I sure hope not. The screenies have looked cool as they have trickled in over the SEVEN FRIGGIN' YEARS it has been in development (give or take a year or two).
The thing with Daikatana was not that it was the worst shooter ever (though it was plenty stupid and annoying), but more that John Romero had been so boastful about the brilliance of the game for years and years while it was in its laughably slow-paced development. While his former colleague John Carmack continued to quietly innovate (though I kinda disliked Quake 3, Carmack has consistently been a technological genius), Romero bragged, lived high on the hog, and ultimately released a buggy, below-average shooter with an outdated engine. I only ever played the demo, and did not even make it all the way through, because I was too annoyed by the robo-frogs. I will never understand why developers feel compelled to include those kinds of small, irritating enemies, which just serve to annoy the player . . .
