If you hate to reboot like I do then this program is perfect for you! Most of the time I still try a program/game even if it tells me to reboot now we can know for sure if we really need to. Pretty nice. Always wondered why Microsoft couldn't get a version of windows that didn't require you to reboot so much. Can be a pain sometimes. Even with a SSD.

I don't know about you guys but I reboot my W7 netbook maybe once a month, and that's only when I feel like it's been a little slow lately and it's due for a reboot. Hibernate ftw!

Same here unless their is important windows updates and yes hibernation is a good feature.

In order to incorporate Registry changes into the active OS, a reboot is necessary.

Yeah I know. The problem is if you have to restart 4 to 10 times. The main reason people have to do that is if they are updating a lot of device drivers or have a lot of windows updates. That time can add up. I know that is pretty rare still it would be nice to never have to reboot for this kind of stuff. Maybe I am to anal/picky.

When is this WhyReboot app actually going to tell you that you don't need to reboot and save you any time though? When you "update a lot of device drivers" or "have a lot of windows updates" then you are going to need to reboot.

More like S3 FTW. Hibernate takes much longer than a fresh boot, for me.

If something allows you to reboot later, I always do that, get everything I can done, and then reboot. No need for an app. Just delay it until your drivers and such are installed, and you actually have to reboot before you can do more (FI, reboot to get more updates).

Most of the time all you have to do it look in the Hkey_Local _Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce registry key to see the pending file operations. If it is a delete and rename you usually have to reboot. If it is just a delete or a regsvr32 call you can run it manually and no reboot required.

In order to incorporate Registry changes into the active OS, a reboot is necessary.

The registry itself is updated in real-time so if something needs a service restart or reboot to notice the changes it's a problem with that individual component. Windows developers just seem to not care enough to take the extra steps required to make things work well for their users. A heavy handed "just reboot" is simpler for them.

I take my netbook to work and back home, as it is currently my only machine during the summer. Thus, S3 is not an option. Besides, my desktop doesn't play nice with S3 and oftentimes won't come out of it.

Agreed. The tools and guidelines are out there for developers to avoid reboots, it's just that most developers ignore them.

At that point you might as well just reboot anyway since you've got to shut all of your apps down to log off.

I hate waiting through the AHCI drive detection and raid cards I use to detect everything, make sure the array is intact, etc. Log off is a lot quicker.
