why're we still using the pc bios?

i want something openfirmware-like (eg sparc computers). of course there's always loading the linux kernel into the flash rom

i've thought about that. if every piece of hardware, had a bios, and an Aios (advncedInputOutputSystem) then maybe we could do away with os for good. I'd like to see OS free computers. i think it could be done, they'd run programs slightly faster. you could build into them multi thread capabilities. I have idea's on how it could be implimented. no os, no boot time, instant up instant down. like a toaster. or a microwave. I mean, you don't have to boot a light bulb. or VCR, OR A TV. People won't accept it from set top boxes. i.e. psx, n64. Why should we accept it from pc's.

Ya, and royaly screw it up too...

Better leave this one to Apple. At least then MS can just copy something that works.
