that sounds like product envy to me! i used to be you and malak, spewing anti-apple hate everywhere i went. then i actually tried one, and got hooked almost instantly. i still have nothing but love for os x, even if their hardware standards are slipping as they move away from computers and towards gadgets, but when it came time to replace my macbook pro i went for a cheaper dell and i've been kicking myself ever since.

There's where your entire argument falls apart. I've used every mac since Apple IIe's. I have more experience on them than most Apple fanboys, and I can safely say I will never actually purchase a mac. There is absolutely nothing special about them. I have never found myself saying, "Well that is neat" while using a mac.

Well it's not that you won't see a Windows box because it can't do what OSX does. You'd be well pretty stupid to say it can't. I don't know a whole lot about music production software, but I know enough to know that anything you can do on OSX you can do on a Windows box. The software and tools are there, the reason you will see Apple in those places is the same reason you see Apple in places where people do graphic design. If you think that's because you can do something on OSX that you can't do on Windows you're a moron. Apple hasn't been anything special in that department since they've switched to Intel. Lets not forget the whole trendy factor and usually musicians are stuck up douche bags so it fits.

(not all Apple owners are stuck up douche bags, I just happen to notice most musicians/actors are stuck up douche bags and they generally rock Apple products.)

So basically you say "I don't know about..." and go on to say "but I know enough" well obviously you don't know enough. It's not as black and white as you're making it out to be. Mac's are better for making music I'm not going to argue about this this with you. COULD a PC be as good? Maybe, maybe not, but that would be pure speculation. I'm not speculating when I say today, if you wanna make music you're best off with a Mac by a large margin. I know a grammy winning enginer, all he cares about is what will help him create the best music. He has a Mac not because he's a douchy hipster like you're saying most are. If he could do his job better with Windows, he'd have a Windows box. It's really really simple.

I have no product envy for Apple. If I wanted one I would buy one. I've spent more on building different PCs than a MBP costs.

One would think that staring at basically the SAME DESIGN APPLE HAS USED FOR THE MBP FOR FUCKING YEARS as dull and uninspired. I'm constantly seeing new creative designs from other vendors, but Apple keeps the same boring shit year after year with minor changes here that people like you shit yourselves over.

lolHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Creative new designs? You must be joking. Every other laptop looks like shit compared to Apples designs. You clearly don't have any sense of style. It is useless trying to educate someone so utterly lost. Everyone knows this.

While I really enjoy the MBP trackpad, I don't like the feel of it on my finger as much as my Lenovo.

lol. Once again you prove your foolishness. Lenovo trackpads are standard issue PC garbage, nothing more. Everyone knows this.

I didn't say the Lenovo track pad was better, I said I like the feel of it better. Like I said before I LIKE the Apple track pad. And yes other companies are coming up with creative new designs. Sure some look generic, Lenovo/Dell, but companies like Sony are putting out beautiful(yet extremely over priced) laptops right now. IMO Sony has better looking laptops than Apple by far. I still wouldn't pay the premium for the Sony name.

I did not see that Apple is a work of art. This is a normal computer. If you want a unique computer, then look at the Soviet computers - they are the best, knows the whole world, but they almost never produce.

Do not get me wrong, we have because of fires burned all the wheat and potatoes, because of this they are 3 times more expensive. And winter is coming, I need to buy firewood for the stove, otherwise we will freeze to death. I can not spend extra money on the computer. If Apple is worth the money, I buy it, but what is the reason that it is more expensive? He is faster?Прослушать

OT but I don't think I've ever chopped firewood. at $80 a cord why waste my time? I make more than $80 in 3-4 hours. We did a drill in wrestling that was like it tho...10lb sledge into tire for 15 min.

Ehh ... to be honest, I ust use a chainsaw to cut down trees or chop them up, then split with my axe.... but, I only go through about 1/4 a cord per year (outdoor fire pit in back yard).... So, even 1 tree lasts a long time....

then you've never really used one.

and my position remains. keep spewing the hate, it really doesn't bother people who actually use their computers instead of trying to make a fashion statement with it.

It's pretty interesting that you say that because I used to be just like that and bought this MBP as an experiment a few months ago and decided I do actually like it enough to keep it. I was hanging out with some die hard PC guys over the weekend and let them use it for a few minutes mainly to play around with the trackpad. The general consensus was, "Wow, that is awesome." (in reference to the trackpad).

So I wonder why they would say that after only a few minutes and you just don't care at all? What is it about any type of laptop that would make you say "Well that is neat"? Anything at all?

If Apple kept the 2008 laptop design, it would still already be ahead of all laptops in 2010. Counting the Unibody revision, Apple's laptop design is years ahead of everyone else. Vendors are still having problems matching a .95" laptop with 7hr battery life and a disc drive.

Other little design features that add up to a premium package are:

Unibody through CNC milling
Large Trackpad
Glass Trackpad
Magsafe
Magnetic latch
Butter smooth hinge
Thin discrete rubber screen gasket
Gasket doubles up as a bumper for the screen
Edge to Edge glass screen with webcam/sensors underneath
Sleep light cut so thin in the unibody, its invisible when off
Fan intake/exhaust through the keyboard so the body has a ventless clean design
Chicklet keys are island keys poking through

As you can see one or a few of these things by itself is trivial, but when you add em all up it becomes a much bigger deal. This is the difference between quality and junk.

Remember battery life is a function of OS optimization too. OS X seems to be configured to aggressively power down the CPU.

Windows does not. Anand's tests have already shown this in his Windows 7 tests on Apple laptops.

Perhaps Lenovo and some other manufacturers are putting in better power profiles to step down the CPU in their newer laptops which is why they can achieve 7hrs+. Otherwise, battery SIZE has not changed much. A 56whr battery from 2004 is what I had, and they're still shipping roughly the same size. Apple did up this by moving to Li-Po, but even then the increase in capacity was not as big as the increase in overall lifetime. It's very impressive.

So you pay through the nose, already paying a fortune for an obsolete processor that the OS purposefully impedes you from using to capacity.

Awesome.

I'm going to run right out and buy a mac.

So like I said before, go ahead and price out a comparable PC laptop and let's see how much money is being wasted. You should be able to do that pretty easily based on all the shit you've been talking.

It's nice that you can't grasp that a computer is more than it's spec sheet.

I'll never buy an Apple product. I prefer not to support a CEO that calls people that buys his products stupid. Also it seems ll he knows to do it mudsling the competition instead of letting his products do the talking.

How many companies make their competition out to be dumb over years of the same commercials and make up sales figures as they see fit at conferences and call their competition porn machine, etc, etc, etc, I don't need to go on. And yes, he has called people who have emailed him stupid. Google is your friend.

Now that is actually a reason I can support. If you don't want to buy a company's product because you don't like something about the company itself (CEO, vision, stance on something, etc.) then that, to me, makes more sense than any of the other retarded arguments in this thread.
