It depends.

I needed the extended warranty for my Creative Zen Xtra when it died after Creative's weak 90-day warranty was over.

I bought one for my DLP HDTV since one repair within 5 years would cost more than the warranty.

To be fair DLPs are one of the 2 exceptions they list, and they didn't include hard disk portable music players in their list of products.

Tis a waste of money. You'd have to be incredibly unlucky for the warranties to pay off (if you purchased them on all the products for which warranties were offered.) If you only have 1 thumb on each hand and even a hint of intelligence, you can effectively make repairs to many products.

Agreed.

That's why I bought a Mack warranty from TapeWorks Texas through this AVS special deal

OPTION #3 - TV Invoice price under $2500, plus bulb/lamp warranty. This combo package covers the TV itself for an additional 3 YEARS after the manufacturer's warranty, as well as the bulb for 3 years. The bulb/lamp will be replaced up to 2 times in those 3 years. The pricetag on this combo is $210.00.

My HDTV's bulb will burn out guaranteed and they cost around $180.

For an extra $30 I get another bulb and my TV's light engine is also covered.

Seems like a no brainer to me.
