Because it is our Right via the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

Oh have you checked the history of the American Revoultion?

Private citizens owning, and using private firearms allowed the USA to be able
to become a free country, from England.

I'm going to humor you, because I'm a girl and the mood is right.

Millions of law-abiding Americans own a gun or guns for decades without ever reaching for it in anger. I grew up with guns in my father's house, and I was raised with a healthy respect for the damage it can do. No one in my family ever threatened/committed a violet act towards any one.

Hey, here's a thought: why don't you tell us where you're from, and we Americans will tell you what kind of whacky stories we've heard about your country? I bet they'd be about as accurate.

Well... i live in Portugal ( that really small country next to Spain, the place where your naval fleet , refuels when it crosses the atlantic ( Azores Islands) ), and in here were allowed to have guns also, and we have what? 1 ( 1!!!!!!!!!! ) murder with fire weapons a year tops. I never heard of anyone going to school armed. And what happens sometimes is some hunting accidents. ( Well, last weekend we had a Police Officer shot down by some uzis in a drug problem , he took +/- 30 bullets, but it was some brazillian bad guys )

So i'm waiting to know your whacky stories about my country ( never mind the cruzades that was a long time ago, and never mind the slave trade in 15 century, you had slaves for far too long ).

BTW we also send soldiers to Iraque . ( i stated this cause i dont hate americans, and i agree whith Iraque's War , just not for the same reasons ( yours OIL, mine's freedom)

Waiting...

Glad someone brought it up... you cannot generalize a nationality. Everyone has their own opinion, its like calling Mexicans lazy, or French pu$$ies... it is a blantant generalization that cannot fit to every single person in that nationality. This was not meant to offend anyone, just an example.

So on topic, Americans do not obsess with guns, some populations of people that ARE American might, and it is their right to.

This thread should be locked... its just a flame bait imho.

I don't think she was attacking your country.

And the Iraqi War wasn't about oil, but that's for a totally different forum. ;)

Many canadians are viscerally scared to the core of guns, but I think my playing with plastic ones as a kid and seeing a lot of movies that glorify guns has not made me scared of them. I don't own one, because I'm married to a typical canadian, but they are fun to play with on occasion.

Yes, a failed suicide could let you paralyzed (if you jump of a window), in need of a liver (if you eat fertilizers) and so on. Or your car can make a train derail, and you would be in prison for life.
Also, save the health system funds - failed suiciders are the most expensive to treat.

Actually, Americans are gun crazy. Well at least the non-New Yorker hick types.

And New Yorkers are just Communist lackeys. or the more correct term would be "subjects", the REST of the country is known as "citizens".
I would NEVER live in that Commie Camp New York or Chicago or Kalifornia

Not to mention that with a gun even a loose boweled sphincter gripping Wanker like Specop 007 can be a tough guy! It's a great equalizer

OP: Guns aren't bad dude. Only in the wrong hands.

The gun threads lately really make me miss shooting. I forgot how much fun target practice was when I was younger - just shooting at cans & stuff, ya know? It's weird but I can totally see now where the urge to hunt comes from. It's something I would consider giving a try, or just going along on a hunt to see what it's like. Maybe I'll just buy a hunting game for now. ;)

I wouldn't mind getting a nice .22 rifle though, even a used one.

Guns are evil and just create more crime. I certainly would never own any.

They own them because their media is alarmist and scares the crap out of the people so they go ahead and buy guns for "protection".

Guns are bad. If people are enraged and drunk it's so easy to grab their guns and suddenly there's yet another gun death. If no guns were available, these same people would be forced to use a somewhat less leathal weapon. Sure, many people own them without killing people, but that's beside the point. The fact is many, many people are killed.

Look at the death figures for the US vs any other country, then come back and talk to me about how guns don't kill people, etc etc

As for protection in your home? Well this is a whole other problem. If no-one had guns at home, the thieves wouldn't often bring a gun (like in the UK). However, since all thieves in the US must assume that the house owner will have a gun, they break in armed, potentially forcing you into a gun fight. Of course, you're going to be asleep when they break in and they're going to have the element of suprise, so good luck to you in protecting your family when when some frigtened burglar is emptying the clip of his tec-9 through your stud walls into the various bedrooms.

Because having a gun makes you enraged, drunk, and homicidal? Or a thief? Because guns are imbued with a special power that overrides all the owner's good intentions, and turns him into a killing machine? Riiiiigt.

Glad YOU recognize an alarmist when you see one. :disgust:

The possibility to cause harm is still there and it isn't worth the risk of people owning them.

Guns aren't needed in a modern society anyway since we have the police and government to protect us.

And lord knows they would never abuse that power.
