Why would your brain kill itself?

Why would your own body end itself? Why would your brain let yourself do this if the purpose is to live as long as possible. (ie: fight diseases, find a cure for cancer)

just curious....

I dont think the brain wants to kill itself.....maybe if it doesn't get enough nutrients to survive, then it will die.....or maybe if the brain is confused, it will do something stupid,...like tell you to jump off the bridge.

Logical arguments are fallacious - emotion is what the brian operates under (whether you want to admit it or not)

Because It realises that it exists.

Most creatures do not commit suicide simply becuase they don;t realize their own mortality.

I will shut up now because I realize that I can.

..frame of mind can change from events or changes in a persons life. Sometimes it's just a selfish last act by someone looking for the easy way out.

The brain is an amazing thing. Simultaneous different levels of consciousness and subconsciousness. It's such a shame that humans as a species, will be extinct within a few hundred years when the cycle starts all over again. 🙁

6 million years from now, some form of humans will be looking at my skull going:

And here we have a perfectly preserved example of "2000-Series Man" Carbon Radiioactive Gamma Dating shows his date of birth to be approximately 1968 years, AD. Notice the curvature of his forearms. This is from being contorted to keyboard level while posting on Anandtech.com, one of the first "virtual life spaces" known to man at that time."

because there is a chemical imbalance within the brain causing it not to function properly.

I disagree to an extent. At least to me, it would seem plausible that a significant percentage of suicides are done by people without physical triggers.

That said, I find it to me more of a logic-oriented result. People who may commit suicide perhaps may come to believe that the pain of suicide will be far less than the emotional and perhaps physical pain of enduring life. Although this may be true for some, it is most untrue.

In the end, I find suicide to be an actualization of fear, of solitude, and of hopelessness at a point when one tuely understands that they exist, and would rather not.

heh, some people write books and spend their lives examining who they really are and how they work, such as teh great Descartes, and at the same time, others just can;t deal with their own finiteness, and shoot themselves in the face....

...luck of the draw as to how we end up I guess...😛

Because humans are not controlled entirely by instinctive responses.

What is the survival value of neffing here, rather than using the time to hunt down a tasty bison or cat to present to a fertile female as a pre-mating gift?

Because we don't have a subroutine embedded in there that prevents us from self-terminating.
