Why would you not put your name in your textbooks?

I was thinking I should put my name in my textbooks in case one is ever lost and someone decent finds it, but looking through them (they're all used), NONE have past owners' names in them already. Is there some reason why nobody does this?

i'd imagine you'd get screwed for the buy back at the bookstore when you turn your books in at the end of the year.

Yeah right, like I'm gonna sell them back to the bookstore and get like, $15. I'll sell them to other students personally just as other students did to me this year, probably get back 100% for the books that are still being used.
