Why would you feel sympathy for these asshats?

Mill

They were the ones joyriding around like little asses.

They deserved everything they got. Gee, lets go for a joyride with some punk 15 year old. Then when the cops chase us the moron driver can do 100mph with a FVCKING SPARE TIRE on. I honestly love when evolution charts its course in life. Too bad a fireball didn't take the whole town with it. I can only pray that they all go to hell and burn forever.

Well....

I've kinda always thought that about police chases. Aren't they putting not only their own lives at risk, but the lives of the people they're now chasing AND the lives of the people the chasee may come in contact with?

I think that is a major thought when going into any car chase. They have to balance the dangers.

If they get too caught up in "getting them" without regard for safety, then I agree that they are in the wrong.

But we'll probably never know.

Read the whole article. It doesen't sound like the cop really even chased them, they sped away and then lost control all on their own.

Disregard my above comments. I don't think they got what they deserved.. especially the passengers in the car.. So sad.. 🙁

The Highway Patrol identified the dead Monday as driver John Lindsey Myers, 15, and passengers David Wayne Summers, 14, Quentin Maurice Reed, 18, Antonio Miller, 13, Domnick Hurtt, 17, Erica Stevenson, 15, and Antoinette Griffin, 13, all from Statesville.

Such a waste.

What do you expect to happen with the driver is 15? Did they not get into the car with him knowing he wasn't of age and didn't have a license? Did the article not say they had been doing it for awhile? It wasn't an accident... it was purely the result of stupidity. I can't feel sorry for anyone being stupid. I feel more sorry for Rex Krebs on the Cali death Row than these fools.

They KNEW it was stupid to be doing what they were doing, plus they had done it before. I just pray that they burn in hell.

When I heard this story on the news today I actually laughed. Sympathy? Not exactly. There are a few less idiots in the world tonight so I can sleep peacefully.

No license? No seatbelts? 100MPH? It was an accident waiting to happen; if not that night, probably somewhere down the line.

I'm just incredibly upset that they probably had a painless death. I would rather them all suffered a fiery crash and been alive for hours before anyone discovered them. I've shed enough tears over the years for people that deserved them. These idiots certainly didn't. I guess I will start feeling sorry for drunk drivers now and the morons that ride with them. If you want to play Russian Roulette then go run on the interstate and lay down. It pisses me off that they tied up emergency workers for hours and probably caused a lot of people an inconvenience. They should have made the family come down there and get their bodies and have the car towed on their own dime. I hope the state sues them for reimbursement and it rains during their funeral.

Seriously. Everyone out there knows that the more teens in a car means it is more likely to run under a drunk truck driver. Either that or they run off a 250 ft sheer cliff into an alligator infested swamp.

Everytime I see an AJC story, it seems like it's always spinning the story to make anyone in authority look bad.

Anyway, I feel bad when anyone needlessly died, but it's still the driver's fault. If you kill yourself breaking the law, it's not the law's fault.

I agree with Mill here.
I'm just glad some decent, nice people didn't suffer heart attacks or whatnot and were denied medical attention during the time when the ambulances were out helping these morons.

I mean, its one thing to be a bit deviant at 15, and do some things ur parents say you shouldnt do.
It's another thing to take a vehicle with one spare tire, and run it at 100mph, a speed even experienced drivers would shudder at when on a crowded expressway.

They got what they had coming to them. No one told them to go 100mph. I won't lose any sleep over this, in fact I'll probably sleep better.

Well, the AJC isn't known for its Journalistic Integrity. They lost their last bit of conservatism when Lewis Grizzard died.

Yeah, I agree with you for the most part.

Some of them were really young though. Try and put yourself back into that child mentality. Did you honestly think about everything objectivly, from a consequences point of view? I know I didn't... it's part of the learning experience of being a child.

Unfortunately these children didn't get to learn from their mistake. It ended with them dead. Were they stupid? Yes. Was it a complete and unnecessary waste? Yes.

That is the sad part, the part that invokes any sympathy.

You also have to take into account.. the passengers, while having a huge lapse in judgement even getting into the car in the first place, were still along for the ride.

For all we know, when the cop tried to pull them over.. half the people in the car yelled "STOP!!" when he started to speed away.

Not saying you're wrong, just trying to inject another point of view. I have a hard time accepting that they were all as dumb as a brick like the driver obviously was.

Well, it may have been a waste to the kids, but maybe it will stop other kids from being dumb. So to say it was a complete and unnecessary waste, I'd have to disagree with.

At 13 I wasn't designing booster rockets for NASA, but I sure as hell knew not to get into a car with a 15 year old and go joyriding. Not only did my parents teach me right from wrong, but it is also basic common sense. I can't help it these kids got caught up in the moment, but they should have know better. They didn't WANT to weigh the risks vs rewards. I wasn't straight edge at 13 by any means, but I also didn't go around looking for trouble. How many underage joyrides end with happiness and an orgy? Not many. Sure, that is a jaded point of view, but at 13 I wasn't a complete dumbass. Blame it on the parents, blame it on the kids, hell blame it on society, but that doesn't change the fact that no on needs a 1600 SAT and a 160 IQ to not do what they did.

The only person I feel sympathy for is the EMS/EMA people. They had to waste their time helping these morons out. I'm also not sure how anyone can think 7 people in a goddamn Intrepid is smart. That's incredibly stupid. Basic intelligence tells you that 7 people in a car is a breeding ground for disaster.

I think your going overboard with the whole i wish they would have suffered in a terrible death, got what they deserved etc etc stuff.

Granted it was stupid and bound to happen and their own fault but still that doesnt mean they deserve to die in a gruesome painfilled way.

Show a lil empathy :\

Include the father of the son who didn't go in the asshat crowd. It's cool that he saved his son's life, not cool that he traumatized the boy by taking him to the scene of the accident. That's just cruel. He knows what dead is DAD!

No doubt there will be a funeral with bodies, etc.

Bad call in my opinion.
