Why would two GF4 Ti4200 cards display different brightnesses?

Hello.

I was running a GF4 Ti4200 and just popped in another GF4 Ti4200 to test it. This second card looks all right, but its display at the stock brightness of the monitor is darker than the first card. When I run 3dmark2001, some of the darker video is too dark. Is there a reason for this? Is there something wrong with the card to display darker?

TIA,

Sal

it is just a matter of quality control for the components on the card, some companies are better about this than others.

How would I be able to tell? Do I have to put the other card back in and then look at the settings?

If I look in the display properties, the brightness is at 50% on this card. At the stock brightness, it seems dimmer than the other GF4 card. Is there a variance among cards or could this card be defective?

Do I just bump the brightness then? Is this pretty common?

I found the problem. It was the driver believe it or not. For some reason, this card didn't like the new 53.03 drivers when the other GF4 card didn't have any problems with them. I uninstalled the 53.03's, used the driver cleaner and installed 43.03's instead. The default brightness is now fine and I even picked up 1000 points in 3DMark2001.
