Why would this happen?

After some frustrating hours of troubleshooting, I've discoverd my fan controller (Vantec Nexus) will disrupt my floppy drive from reading properly. It only happens when my fans are being set to 7.5V instead of the normal 12V. It is really noticable when the controller and drive are on the same PSU connector, but happens even if they are on different ones.

So my current solution is just to crank the fans up to full voltage when using the floppy drive... but why does this even happen in the first place? Is the Nexus just a crappy controller that messes with the voltage levels that much?

i dont really know a true solution but i am just throwing out ideas. are the floppy drive and the fan controller on the same power cable by going through a "y cable"? if so try putting each of them on their own dedicated power cable, like directly use a power cable that is coiming out of the power supply unit.

They were at first, and putting them on different lines did help, but didn't 100% solve the problem. My thinking is that whatever the controller does to regulate the fans to 7.5V causes voltage fluctuations, but only my floppy drive has noticable effects. Strange that power lines would mess up the data lines like that.
