Why would O/C my FSB cause my 3DMark2001se scores to go "DOWN?"

I have the MSI 865PE NEO2-LS and am running a 2.4c and Kingston HyperX PC3500 ram.

I decided to try some overclocking.

I first tweaked my memory by setting the "Performance setting" to "Ultra Turbo" and set my timings to 2-2-2-5. Everything ran great and I got 16,440 on 3Dmark2001se.

I then decided to raise the FSB to see how high I could go.

I left the memory timings as they were and begin to raise the FSB thinking my 3Dmark2001se scores would go up each time I raised the FSB.

However, the "opposite" happened.

I raised it in 5mz increments and even when I got as far as 230FSB my 3Dmark score was only 15,990 !

Why would raising my FSB, hence raising the speed of my CPU, make the 3Dmark scores GO DOWN??

I tried it at 1:1 and 3:2 and got the same results.

possible or something decided to run in the background when 3dmark was on.
ive had the same experience as him but ive also seen my system with nothing changed bench 3dmark with may different scores each time some slower and some faster its weird. but you should NEVER put your faith in a synthetic bench anyways test it with a current game quake3 or a quake3 based engine game will do fine since the Q3 engine LOVES memory bandwidth.
