Why would NT 4.0 Server install fail after first reboot?

This is on a Dell 400SC with the SCSI controller. Install goes fine. I'm prompted to remove the CD and any floppy disks and hit enter to reboot...when I do it gets past the OS loader and then at the next screen where it detects the format of the HD as being FAT and begins converting it to NTFS. A few seconds after it says it's beginning the conversion, it reboots ( a little quicker than usual, but whatever) and this time, once it gets to the same point, it says yada\yada\partition0 is already NTFS and suddenly the signal to the monitor is cut off and the system sounds idle as if it shutdown. But I have to shut it down and restart it to get it back.

Any idea what could cause this?

Get the latest drivers for the SCSI controller, put them on a floppy, boot NT installation from floppy, specify driver disk when prompted, and see if that helps. I often have problems installing NT 4.0 on machines with SCSI

How big were you making the partitions? and what service pack does your disk have?

I tried partitions from 1000MB to 4000MB.

The disc has SP1...anyway to merge sp6 onto it?

You could make a slipstream NT4 with SP6, but I dont think that would solve your problem. I actually ran accross this one on the phones alot, but that was awhile back and I cant for the life of me remember the fix. I think it was something to do with refresh rate shutting off the monitor.

I'll try a few things based on the assumption that it's video based.

Ack! PCI vid card. That mean anything?

Switched PCI slot for the vid card and everything is dandy. That hint on the refresh rates is what did it...thanks a ton!
