Why would burning a CDR lock up a computer? - Fixed

When the burn gets to a certain percentage the computer just locks up. We have tried copying different files and have reinstalled Nero 5.0. It locks up at the same spot on the disk no matter what size files we try to burn. If we burn a 100meg file it locks up at 10%. If we burn a 30Meg file it locks up at 33%. Its like the laser will only go so far then the computer locks. Any ideas?
 
How are your IDE devices setup..? I'll make the obvious suggestions -- try a different burning program and/or try the CD writer on a different PC..
