I am not looking to cause trouble...this is an honest question. I was looking around the FS/T forum and there are people looking to trade high end radeons (9700pros, 9800, 9800pros) for high end nVidia. Why would you want to be aquirring an nVidia right now?

Well, some people are still weary of ATI 's drivers. From what I've read they have gotten a lot better over the years according what I've read in the forums.

Because they've always wanted an Nvidia? They want the most expensive, fastest card available for today's games?

ati's driver problems went away long ago.

nvidia has a dud on their hands until their next chip. only way i'd buy a nvidia now knowing what i know is if it were so drastically discounted that it made sense.

I've only seen one person wanting to do that... maybe he's been living in a cave the last few weeks? I don't know, why don't you ask him.

Yeah, the driver thing is the only reason I can think of. ATi until the 9700 had craptastic drivers, and I still don't completly trust that they're okay (though if I was buying a video card right now I'd get the Radeon 9800 Pro in a second, considering for $300 you get a card that's a gazillion times more powerful than a $500 Nvidia card).

And what's this about Nvidia being faster "on today's games"? ATi is faster on today's games, and with the games of the very, very near future the performance and image quality difference is just astronomical (what with a $150 ATi card outperforming a $500 Nvidia card on games coming in the near future).

Because some have money to waste. I checked out the 5900Ultra prices at Newegg and was like damn. Even if they did as well as ATI in HL2 I still wouldn't get one. Intel 3.0C
costs less than them.

Well, for if you want to spend less than 100 USD on a card right now, the GF4 TI4200 would be the way to go. Peace.

People who say nVidia sucks this and that in one thread and how they will never buy another nVidia product again... yet recommend the nForce2 as the best K7 solution in another thread. :)

There was a time (when I owned ATI from the Rage through the Radeon 8500) that the same question was asked: "Why would anyone want an ATI right now?". (I guess i could always have mentioned that ATI was cheaper and had great image quality . . . right now, if blazingly fast frame rates are your "thing" and you have lots of cash - nVidia's for you.)

Personal preference and choice although it's hard to be a nVidia fanboy nowadays.

That still doesn't make much sense though... you can get 'blazingly' fast framerates with an ATI solution, and it'll be cheaper and more futureproof.

I don't think ATi is that well known yet. To us PC geeks and message board members who stay in the loop, ATi stands out perfectly. However to a person walking into best buy with a salesmen who knows nothing but how to sell, then of course Nvidia will be well known.

It's like religion . . . it doesN'T make sense to non-believers.

Is that a better explanation?

Because people (rightly or wrongly):

1) Have brand loyalty
2) Purchase hardware with a specific app or two in mind
3) Like nVidia's drivers better (even if ATi is "starting to" or "trying to" catch up)
4) Do what their friends tell them
5) Do what "their buddy who knows alot about computers" tell them
