Why would a X800 SE PCIe video card be detected as a X800 GT ?

A sticker on the back of the card clearly says X800 SE but it is detected as a X800 GT.

The sticker on the HSF is SE.

Any thoughts???

I may pull the HSF to see what the GPU says, but that won't be till next week.

I think thats pretty common for the same GPU family. I think it just reads a vendor string in the cards bios, but I've seen that before particularly on my AIW card listed as a regular Radeon. It didn't seem to have any effect at all, and even for my AIW, WDM drivers installed properly like they should for an AIW. I think you're fine.

I'm fine with that, except that it also said it has 128mb of DDR1. I'm thinking that it really is a GT, and the SE HSF and sticker were added. Any way to be 100% sure? If it is a GT, is there any way to flash the BIOS with something better?

I pulled off the HSF and cleaned the slug. It says X800SE. I also took the opportunity to put on some fresh Arctic Silver.

I was doing some Windows updates yesterday, and noticed there was a driver update targed especially towards the X800 SE so I installed it. When Windows rebooted, the video drivers were all screwed up, and I could only get VGA resolutions. I could not change it to ANY other setting, and ended up downloaded the latest Cat drivers from ATI. That at least got me back to X800GT status, and all the resolution settings worked again. I still don't know what is going on with this card.

It still says it has 128mb video ram too.

I thought all X800 SE cards have 256megs of memory?!?!

Could this be caused by a conflict with my Mobo Chipset? It's the ATI Xpress200 chipset.

i'm 99% sure you have to uninstall drivers for the x300se on the xpress chipset..but you're a 3k poster and probably already did that :)

Oops...

This is my first xPress 200 mobo, and first X800 video card. I hadn't heard of that being necessary, but I'm sure going to read about it now. Thanks for the tip.

I've done some reading, but I can't find anything that explains the why or how of what you are suggesting. Can you drop me a link?

I didn't see any drivers for the X300se on my system, nor did I see any way to disable it in the bios.

Any other ideas?
