why won't word 2003 work with win7

I have win 7 64 bit and my office 2003.
Word opens and runs fine and all that but when I try to open an exsiting file by double clicking on it word opens and then an error that says cannot send the command to the program.
I looked in the web about it and every post is about excel doing this and how you can turn off or disable "Use DDE" in the menus.
But this option is not under word as far as I can find.

does anyone know how to get word to open up a file buy clicking on the file?

Have you tried repairing/reinstalling Office on the computer?

Works fine for me. You might want to reinstall it.

Have no problems with Office 2003 and Win7 x64 here. Have you installed SP3?
