Why won't Winamp play in Win2k?

I installed Win2k over Win98SE, and now Winamp isn't working correctly. I'll load a cd and hit play, and the elapsed time will start counting like it normally does, but I get now sound. However, both Windows Media Player and cd player work fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Winamp, and I've checked to make sure that the cd cable hasn't come loose inside my case; no luck. What should I do?
