Why won't W2K load on my MSI board

I have just recieved my board from RMA and wanted to use it as a small server. After W2K loads all the set-up files, I get the blue screen that says something about an error. It says if this is the first time this has happened to turn the computer off and restart. When I restart nothing happens. By specs are below. I realize the video card isn't the best in the world, but it wouldn't work with my Voodoo 3. I do have it working on a Asus CUSL2-c with the Voodoo without a problem. Any suggestions? Thanks,

G

Are you doing a fresh install or a dual boot?
What OS did you have before?
Have you disabled the "virus warning"?

Yes it was a fresh install with a clean format. I'm sure the virus check is disabled, but I will check. Thanks,

G

Do your install with the "safe settings". When you have Win2k up and running you can turn performance features.

Hey,

I get the exact same error, mine is an MSI K7T Pro 2a. IT is called a STOP ERROR I believe. I just installed win 3.11 and then installed 2k. It works perfectly now though and is(was) 100% stable untill my last mess up. See my Post if you would like to try and help me out.

I hope that helps.
I will keep reading this thread to see if there is a solution.

I never get to choose anything. There is a screen after it checks drives that says loading set-up files. After that, it's supposed to restart and bring up the rest of the W2K options. When it goes to restart it says there is an error. The only things I get to choose is if I agree to the licensing agreement, where I want to put it, and if I want to change the file format. After that it's out of my hands. Thanks again,

G

"Safe Settings" is on the Setup menu. You have to enter into setup mode by pressing the "Delete" key at startup (there should be a message on the bottom of your screen.) After you load "safe Settings" select "Save and Exit" and start your Win2K install. The "safe settings"

<< IS NOT >>

an option of Win2K is an option for your BIOS

Are you using an ata controller besides the onboard controller? If so, you must install the drivers for the controller during setup.
Have you tried using fdisk to delete and then recreate the partitions? This should not be necessary, but sometimes it helps.

Also, like the other guys have said, check your bios and make sure that you are using the safest settings possible, especially the memory settings. You should also load the "Fail safe defaults" in the bios.

OK, it's working. You guys were right when you said W2K doesn't like the HD to run at ATA100. I simply took my CD-ROM and connected it to the primary channel with the HD. This made the HD run at ATA33. Didn't have a problem installing. Went just like it was supposed to. Thanks again for all you're help.

BTW diamondfire 13, try what I did and see if that helps you.

Make sure you have the latest bios and that it is set right. MAke sure your harddrive and cdrom and memory are setup right.

I have no prob running my ATA100 Maxtor off my FIC mobo in Win2k. However until installing VIA 4-IN-1 drivers the HD would show up as PIO mode.
