upraded (via clean isntall) to vista last week and have discovered that windows wont read my 2gb sd card from my camera. it says it needs to be formatted. it worked fine in XP. if i hook the camera up to vista it can be read fine. odd yes? so after getting everything off the card, i decided to let vista format it but it would only see 936mb regardless of FAT or FAT32. and after formatting, my camera wouldnt read it until the camera formatted it back and it shows as 2gb on the camera again but vista cant read it. its very annoying. id prefer to pop the card out rather than hook up the camera cuz the cover on the camera for the usb is kinda fragile and im afraid over time it will break off. im using the cars in a sandisk 8in1 usb2 reader and the card is a sandisk ultra. any thoughts on making vista read the card?

I had the same problem on both XP and Vista machiens with 2gig or higher cards. Most likely you'll need a driver update to see the full card, this is common with the 2gig or higher cards. Sounds like your XP rig had the right driver but the Vista box is using the default one. Check the readers website and use their latest driver.

When this happened on my Toshiba laptop it was definately a driver issue, I had to track one down for the sd reader that supported sdhc.

actually, it seems i have a lexar reader, not sandisk (my sd card is a sandisk ultra though)). no drivers for xp or vista. guess ill either have to turn my other computer on which still has xp and use it on there or get a new reader than may or may not work on this computer. argh. my first vista issue :(
