Why won't this thing work!~ :|:|:|

I'm having problems :|🙁

I've got an Athlon XP2200+ that I'm trying to put in a Soyo Dragon motherboard. I can't remember the model number off hand, but it uses the KT266a chipset.

Anyway, I put the XP2200+ in and the computer won't POST. I clear the CMOS, try turning it on, off, on, off, etc etc and all I can get is fans spinning. No beeps, no POST, just spinning fans.

Now I throw an XP1700+ in and the computer will work perfectly. Computer will POST and I can boot into Windows just fine. Try taking out the XP1700+ and putting the XP2200+ back in and I get nothing. Try clearing the CMOS, turn on, nothing.

The _ONLY_ thing I can think it would be is the power supply doesn't have enough power to handle an XP2200+. I haven't switched the power supply out yet as the computer is now sitting in my car to take to my girlfriend's brothers house to work on it there.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here's the specs of the system:

Soyo Dragon motherboard (KT266a chipset)
Athlon XP2200+ (1700+ will make computer boot)
Crucial 256MB PC2100 memory
120GB Maxtor hdd
ATI 8500 64mb video card
Onboard LAN/Sound
US Robotics 56k Modem
Generic 350W power supply

I do have a spare 420w PSU I can try if we can't come up with anything here.

Thanks 🙂

One thing I can definitely rule out is the power supply.
Don't bother switching them if it works on the 1700
the amount of draw more wouldn't be substantial enough to defeat a 350Watt PSU, even generic at that.

I've got a 2000XP+ running on a 200 watt PSU that will be replaced shortly...but fact is, it runs fine. I dont have 100 drives, but I do have 2.
Not a prob yet.

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I bought this board specifically for the processor.

I thought Socket A was good until AMD XP940000000+ 🙁🙁🙁

How come my Epox 8k7a will boot with the XP2200 in though?

I don't think I've flashed the BIOS since I got the board about a year or two ago

Some wil and some won't . I have an Abit KR7A Raid and it dosen't support anything higher than a 2000xp Thoroughbred and 2100+ pally.
I have a MSI K7T Turbo 2 with SDram that supports a Pally up to 2100 +and a Thoroughbred up to 2600+, it uses the 266a chipset but has an onboard connector for a pentium plug in to boost the CPU voltage so it can run a 2600+ Thoroughbred.

Your best bet is a N-Force board. Unless you have Sdram then get the MSI board if you do'nt want to get DDram.

Ok now that's weird because I have a KR7A (non-raid) that's running a 2400+ right now. 😕
