Why won't this sorting method work for me?

there's a built-in method for re-ordering how the accounts appear in the pop-up menu.
In Mail, use the Mail menu to select Preferences.
In the window that opens, select Accounts along the top.
You can drag the accounts listed on the left to re-order how they will appear in the new message pop-up menu (this also effects the order in which your mail accounts check for new email).
Close the Preferences window, then quit and re-launch Mail for the change to appear.

My mail accounts will not drag and drop sort (2009 MacBook, Mountain Lion).

Help.

Doesn't work for me either. My assumption is they took that feature out in Mountain Lion (since the tip article was written for Lion/10.7.)

If you expand the sidebar and expand the "mailboxes" item, you can reorder them there.

I can reorder the mailboxes that way. I want to reorder the accounts. 🙁
