Why won't my puter "Hibernate" :(

Hi 🙂

Ive got a Asus P3V4X based puter that goes into standby ok but wont do "Hibernate" 🙁

When i installed winMe 3000 i saw an option for hibernate in "Power Options" but before i got the puter sorted out fully it had dissapeared 🙁

Is this a driver/bios prob with the Asus or is there anyway i can hack my registry to enable it?

I read somewhere that u needed to have a fat16 partition to do this? I sure hope not, as i aint got any partitioning software that'll work with winMe without proper DOS support.

If anyone has managed to get this working with winMe would like to hear from u 🙂

I did have the Hibernate tab that at one time with my Tyan, it has gone now, I do not why, I guess the Via 133A does not support it.

Looks like im gonna have to shell out on a new mobo 🙁

Was wondering if the new Asus i815E will work?
Asus promised that STR & STD would work with the P3V4X as the 133A chipset does support it :/
Looks like theyre rushin theyre mobo's out the door without getting them working as they advertise 🙁
Wonder if i could get a refund on this mobo due to it not working with the features i want? 😉
Heh if they'll exchange it be kewl 😀

'as the 133A chipset does support it :/' that was just what I assumed.

I am going to get a KT 133 sysytem, I doubt that would be any different from the 133A though

Oh by the way, via driver sucks crap
stay away!
Do not update your driver with VIA
it maybe newer but very screwy
The windows98 VIA driver has much better compatibility

umm... Hyper99, hibernate isn't standby... it shuts off your computer, but saves the current settings, windows, apps running, etc to hd. That way, whne you power back up, it takes less time and everythign you were running before you hibernated is still running when you get back up.

Secondly, Don't make ignorant comments about VIA drivers. In fact, they've gotten a lot better in recent weeks, especially in win2k.

And hibernation isn't really used for desktops, but its anice feature to use if you can use it. I can hibernate my win2k/p3v4x system fine. It may be a ACPI problem with win me. Cause I haven't tried hibernating in win me yet.

Cheers for the moral support guys 😉

looks like im gonna have to wait for winMe to hit the shops as i feel it maybe the bios at fault 🙁
maybe then Asus will come up with something 🙂

I'm talking about Via Bus Master driver
harddrive doesn't power down correctly
in standby causes lockup
mikewarrior you no idea what I am talking about do you?
There is no need for that sort of stuff
Same reason with intel's busmaster Driver being disabled
in win98, compatiblity problem.
VIA is VIA, they suck.
Slow memory performance, it a poor man's chipset if you ask me
Just ask anyone.
Just because you use Via doesn't mean you have to like it.
Intel chipset RULEZ
Avoid Via like the Sis, like the plaque.
Do yourself a big favor and don't waste time and money with them
and last do some research before saying it good etc.

Okay, this from the person that said "Overclocking is Useless".

STFU!!! You never, ever know what you're talking about. GO away!!!

Mike
EDIT. Oh, its a poor man's chipset? Well, why is it that games perform exactly the same for me on a P3v4x as they would on a BX chipset?

EDIT2: are you hardware in disguise? I swear, you two are the only people who use "rulez"
