Why won't my PC detect my new Hard drive?

I plugged it in and ran the detect hard drive thing in the bios.... what else was I supposed to do?

Make sure you've set it to "master" or "slave" depending on which one it is -- look on the back of the drive.. If it's the 2nd drive to be put on the cable, it should be set to "slave".. If it's the 1st then it should be set to "master".. Make sure it's properly plugged in and is powered..

I have 2 ATA cable one has a drive and a CDR on it.
The other has a drive and this new drive on it, set to slave.

If both devices are on the same cable then the burner would be the master and the HD would be the slave...if they are on seperate cables(channels) then I would put the HD on the primarey channel set to Master and the Burner on the sceondary channel also set as the master

Try using the software that came with your drive and format the drive (fix disk and format will do the same thing also).
