Why won't my keyboard work during boot

I've got a Microsoft (corded) multimedia keyboard, brand new. During a new system build It won't let me use the F8 key to Agree to Microsoft licensing. I need to grab an old keyboard to plug in for a moment so I can "Agree".

Also when I am in changing the BIOS any time I need to use a Function key. The multimedia keyboard doesn't work. This also happened with my old system and my Logitech multimedia keyboard.

Is there something simple I'm missing?

Thanks, Rob

Enabling "USB Keyboard Support" in the BIOS might fix the problem. This allows a USB keyboard to work in a DOS like environment where drivers are not available. That may be the case with the Windows installation not having the proper driver support and the BIOS may be able to emulate the support.

Correct ... in this case, he's still operating in a real-mode "DOS" environment and thus no drivers are loaded at all. Keyboard emulation is required here.

Ahem, his kbd is PS/2. The BIOS is the only thing that can affect keyboard operation during the boot process. Maybe needs an update. Check Asus web site.
