I have the CL 32MB GTS on a Sony G400 using the 6.50 reference drivers. Max rez I can get is only 16x12. Anyone know why that is? Monitor will do max 1800x1440 and vid card will do 1920x1440x32. WTF?

The Max res is determined by the drivers, edit the INI and you can get higher resolutions. After you edit you have to install them again.

It will vary by both your monitor and video card drivers... the GF2 will go above 1600x1200 but if you didnt install your monitor drivers it may think your monitor max res is 1600x1200.

Monitor drivers are installed. Under settings tab, "Display: SONY CPD-G400/G400J on NVIDIA GeForce2GTS/GeForce2Pro"

If you're running Win2K and have hacked the registry to play games at higher then 60hz, then windows will also apply those setting to the Desktop.(i.e. If you set the refresh rate at 85hz for games in registry, then the desktop will only allow resolutions at which the refresh rate is at 85hz or above)

BTW- why do you want to run geater than 16x12 on a 19" monitor, as it is already too small to view at that resolution.

Might want to check out the drivers too.

I'm runnin 98.

Really, I want to know why my GTS can't do 16x12x32@85Hz. I get wobbly verticle edges of windows. It only does this at 85Hz, 75Hz works and looks great. My V3 3000 can do 85Hz and looks fab, it'll also go higher than 16x12.

Theres a checkbox in your monitor properties tab that says something to the extent of enable unsupported settings. Try that.

max resolution is determined by monitor drivers.
If you can find drivers for some 24"+ monitors, you'll see resolution supported higher than 1600x1200

Once again, the monitor drivers are installed and the monitor will support over 16x12.

I'm sure they're gonna tell me its a vid card issue, and I think it is also.

If you read my earlier posts, you'll see I'm askin about the vid card.

As you can see by my earlier post, the V3 can go higher than the GTS, so how can that be a monitor issue? Your right, its not.

Is there anyone with a GTS using reference drivers that won't allow over 16x12 on a monitor that clearly supports over that rez?

Are you talking about desktop resolution?

Try using power strip. Sometimes video card drivers suck.

I think you need a registry hack to get resolutions past 1600x1200. I seen a post on a different forum on it before, lemme dig it up for you in a bit.

Here at Rage3d. I never tried it. I didn't quiet understand the guy's directions but you might. The poster is BB888 btw.

Just go here and download "sonyminf.exe". Extract it to a folder (place this folder anywhere, but not on your desktop. Go to display properties-settings-advanced-monitor-change-display a list....-browse. Point it to directory with files you have extracted. It will select "Sonymon.inf" file. OK, OK and then select G-400. You all set.

Cheers,
SB

I don't think it's his drivers. I can't go above 1600x1200 either with a Samsung 900NF and ATI Radeon when both support it. I've reinstalled the monitor many times and the drivers are fine.

What freaks me out is that my other system(which is runnin Win2k server, by the way) has a V3 3000, and when I hook the Sony to that system...BAM, I'm gettin over 16x12 and no wobbly verticle edges at 85Hz.

gotta be the reference drivers for the GTS.

I don't think you have completely ruled out the monitor driver yet: You say that it works above 1600x1200 with a voodoo, but that voodoo is installed in an entirely different system with an entirely different OS on it. Even if you used the same monitor driver cd, you are using two different drivers.

The real question is why do you want to run above 1600x1200 with a nvidia anyway, when you can see how it looks like $hit at 1600x1200?

The reason is clearly stated above by me, but I'll paste it down here for your convience;)

I've installed the Sony driver 3 times, and for the third time, device manager says the Sony driver is installed. I can see if the different OS was maybe the reason, but your tellin me that 98SE won't allow over 16x12?
