Why won't my E6600 Overclock

I must admit I am an OC noob so I tried using some Oc utilities like nTune. In short I cant get over a 2% overclock on mu CPU. After i used n tune my 3dmark scores got cut in half. Things run fine when I set everyting back to stock. I have an nforce 570 from asus and in the bios they have something called an AI over clock whick you just choose a % to over clock your cpu. I tried 10% and my system wouldn't boot to wondows. It seems like people with an e6600 are getting like 30% OC in air and with out increasing vcore. (albit they have a diffent mobo)

What is going on? Do I have to burn in my system before I start overclocking? I did increase my voltage to 1.4 for about 30min. Did I damage my cpu to where it wont OC?

I haven't tried any manual overclocking cause I cant find any good step by step guides for overclocking. I looked at anandtechs but they dont seem straight forward to me and more catered to amd.
Can some please help or point me in the right direction. Thanks much in advance for your help.

I have almost the same setup as you but a DS3.

Have you tried OC threw the bios only without bumping voltage at all, just to see if you can?

I have not tried a stright manual FSB increase yet. Im am not sure if im am supposed to decrease my memory frequency before I increase my FSB speed (read that in an xbit article). Also I think that is what ntune does it just bumps up the fsb (2%increments) and checks for stability.

Also my cpu temp according to the bios is idiling at 38 deg

I cant believe they are THAT bad... are they? I cant get even a 10 % OC

No they aren't, but according to AT, they cap at around 300FSB. So from a default 266FSB, +10% would make it 293FSB, which is approaching the cap as is. My only suggestion would be to put in active cooling solution on the Northbridge or put some mini-heatsinks on the PLL's (if they're hot).

What do you have? The P5N32-SLI or P5NSLI?
